Crudeli gets umpires’ vote after a scintillating season

Railways star Nathan Crudeli capped a terrific individual season with the prestigious Albany and Districts Cricket Association A-grade umpires’ player of the year award on Saturday night.

At the ADCA awards night, Crudeli was part of a Tigers clean sweep of the major three A-grade awards as teammate Coen Marwick won the Mike Storm Memorial all-rounder trophy and captains player of the year while young keeper Aidan Dallimore claimed the Syd Harper best under-21 honour.

Having led the Tigers into a seventh straight grand final, Crudeli won the top gong by five votes from Royals’ Mitch Green after a season that included 394 runs and 14 wickets in the regular season.

The 26-year-old polled 24 votes from the umpires to win the award he last claimed back in 2015-16, downing Green on 19 and Mt Barker’s Alex Fergie (18).

Coen Marwick won the captains player of the year award by four votes, polling 36 to down Crudeli (32) and Green (26).

A season that netted 810 points earned Marwick the Mike Storm Memorial award ahead of Fergie (775) and Jeremy Wood (764).

Dallimore, who represented Albany at both country week and country cup level, was recognised as the best under-21 player in the competition.

Tigers spinner Simon Harvey won the A-grade bowling aggregate with 35 wickets, the most since Dan Vernon (36) in 2015-16.

Manypeaks spearhead Warwick Durack won the bowling average with 20 wickets at 10.3.

On the back of a double century, Fergie won the batting aggregate with 625 runs while Crudeli claimed the batting average with his 394 runs coming at 65.6.

In the lower grades, Narrikup’s James Morris won the B-grade captains player of the year and the all-rounder trophy while Rodney Light, also from Narrikup, won the C-grade captains player of the year and all-rounder awards.
