Coxall, Higgs and Claybrook claim feature-race victory at first-ever night meeting at Mt Barker Speedway

Dustin Higgs stormed to an impressive win in round eight of the Super Sedan WA Summer Series, while Tim Coxall was crowned the Ronnie J Memorial winner at Mt Barker Speedway on Saturday.

The meeting was a historic one for the Mt Barker Speedway Club, as racing was conducted under lights at the traditional daylight venue.

Mobile lighting towers were placed around the track for the twilight meeting, with the finals held under evening conditions at Les Gorman Park for the first time.

Dustin Higgs started the feature race alongside his father and close rival Gary Higgs.

Gary Higgs surrendered second place to Nathan Thiele in the early stages before a yellow-light stoppage.

Dustin Higgs powered clear at the restart and was never headed from there, going on to record a dominant 3.086sec. victory over his nearest rival in the shortened 10-lap final.

It was Dustin Higgs’ fifth feature race win of the season as he defeated Thiele and Gary Higgs, while Bryce Fisher and Kyle Larson rounded out the top five.

The super sedans also had a teams challenge, with Larson and Fisher finishing on top.

Thiele and Ajay Hammer were second ahead of Gary Higgs and Jerome Wade in third.

In the Ronnie J Memorial for street stocks, Coxall prevailed after a terrific battle with Aaron Sutton and Peter Herbert in the 20-lap final.

Coxall quickly raced to the lead in the feature race and set the quickest lap on his way to victory, downing Sutton by 1.257sec.

Herbert finished in third place ahead of Lincoln Coleman and Scott Parry.

Anthony Perrella had a strong run during the meeting but had to retire after six laps, while Daniel Sutton, Tim Pratt, Tim Matthews and Ryan Murray were other non-finishers.

A production sedan feature was also held, with Trent Claybrook reigning supreme, scoring a big win in the 20-lap decider.

Claybrook crossed the line 5.817sec. ahead of Shane Devonshire. while Calon Ball, Wayne Coleman and Mike Kinnear rounded out the top five.

In the junior sedans, Baxter Trouchet was the overall winner on points from Brock Pearce and Joel Bowman.
