Community urged to have their say on proposal to allow dogs at Walpole, Denmark beaches
Dogs could soon be allowed on two beaches in the Walpole-Nornalup and William Bay national parks under proposed changes now out for public comment.
Dogs are prohibited at the tourist hotspots of Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks in Denmark’s William Bay National Park which attracts about 330,000 visitors a year.
Under the new proposal by the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions, Mazzoletti Beach directly next to these key attractions would become a gazetted dog area.
Sandy Beach, which attracts more than 20,000 visitors a year to the Walpole-Nornalup National Park, could also open to dogs.
The amendment would see a recommended designated dog area in the Keystone block removed and a new designated dog area created within Harewood forest block north of Denmark.
DBCA Frankland district manager Cameron Shaw urged the community to have their say.
“The sites proposed have low-risk impacts on existing natural and cultural heritage values of the area,” he said.
“Staff from DBCA’s Parks and Wildlife Service will closely monitor the areas for impacts and manage them accordingly.”
