A free community music program will help people living with disability in the Great Southern find their voice.

Community Living Association has secured $15,000 from Lotterywest to bring Singability to Albany.

Singability is a social singing group where people of all abilities can perform and meet like-minded people.

CLA has provided support to people living with disability in Albany for about 30 years, helping them live independently, participate in the community and learn new skills.

The program will run from October to February, with workshops led by experienced Albany musician and choir director Theresa Hughes.

CLA chief executive Russell Nelson said the team was excited to provide a new opportunity for the Albany community.

“Singability is an exciting new program designed for people of all abilities to participate in singing and engage in a rich musical experience,” he said.

“Participants will also have opportunities to develop new friendships and feel valued and connected as part of the community by performing locally.”

The program, held on Thursday afternoons, is open to supported participants aged over 16 with a Disability Support Pension card.

The first round of six-week introductory workshops will start in October at CLA’s Centre for Excellence on Cockburn Road.

Registrations must be received by September 20.
