Community art event invites everyone to leave their mark on the walls of the Albany Town Hall gallery

Albany residents and summer holiday visitors will get a rare opportunity to do something they have always been told not to over the next five weeks — draw all over the walls of an art gallery. The first-of-its-kind event in Albany has seen the walls of the Albany Town Hall gallery turned into a blank canvas that will be filled up by anyone young or old wanting to get in touch with their artistic side through to January 20. An Art After Dark event involving members of the arts community on Wednesday night added the finishing touches to blank walls in preparation for the community art event to officially start on Thursday. The walls have been divided into different themes and clear instructions on one of the main walls ask those taking part to respect the contributions left by those before them. Materials to be used on the walls will be provided to ensure a smooth clean-up at the end of the event and to help ensure any inappropriate contributions to the event can be removed through the five weeks.
