Collingwood star and AFL premiership player Darcy Cameron coming home with cup in November on national tour

Hometown hero Darcy Cameron is bringing the AFL premiership cup to Albany. Collingwood Football Club’s 2023 premiership cup tour will visit Albany, home of recently crowned premiership player Cameron. Cameron was one of the stories of grand final day, as he tasted the ultimate success to cap an incredible journey that began as a lankly teenager at North Albany. North Albany Football Club will host an official leg of Collingwood’s nationwide tour that starts on Sunday at Victoria Park and ends in Launceston on November 29. Cameron will return home to proudly show off the silverware on Friday, November 17 at a free event for fans. It is part of more than 20 stops around Australia the Magpies will make with their 15th premiership cup. The event in Albany will start at 5pm at North Albany Football Club and is open to the public to come and see their hometown hero. The 28-year-old featured in 19 games for the Magpies in 2023 and played a vital role in the ruck on the biggest day of the year, collecting 12 disposals, 19 hit outs and six tackles in their thrilling four-point win over Brisbane. Magpies players past and present will feature along the tour and they will also visit the North Mandurah Magpies Football Club while in WA. North Albany Football Club president Russell Hare said it was terrific to have Cameron coming back home. “We are absolutely thrilled to have Darcy and the cup coming to North Albany,” he said. “People will get the opportunity to meet and have a chat to Darcy and get a photo with the cup. “This is a great sign of who he is as a person, Darcy is happy to come back and hasn’t forgotten his grassroots and where he came from. “This is an opportunity to give back to the club in a big way and we are very grateful Darcy is coming home.” Collingwood chief executive Craig Kelly said the club was pleased to share the premiership cup with as many members and supporters as possible. “Our premiership success was achieved by many — our players, staff, members and supporters,” he said. “This cup is a representation of the entire Collingwood family and we look forward to sharing it with you all. “There will be upwards of 20 stops across the country for the month on the road, which includes iconic Australian monuments, public venues across each State, and community football clubs — some of which are the junior homes of our AFL players. “We have one of the largest supporter bases in the AFL, all spread across the nation, and we hope as many fans as possible will be able to celebrate with us. “We look forward to ensuring the cup is accessible for all fans at venues free of charge.”
