Claremont Football Club masterclass clinic attracts about 65 youngsters despite wet weather

Wet weather did not dampen the spirits of more than 50 eager children at the Claremont Football Club masterclass clinic in Albany last Thursday.

Former AFL player and Tigers football operations manager Kepler Bradley was joined by Richmond recruiting officer Sam Cousens in Albany to deliver the clinic that attracted about 65 youngsters from the Great Southern.

Children competed in ball activities outside and then inside the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre when the bad weather came.

The program is designed to incorporate match simulation drills to help develop players’ decision-making skills and game awareness.

Joining Bradley and Cousens at the event were WAFC Great Southern regional development specialist Jaxon Liddelow, Albany-raised AFLW and WAFLW player Sophie McDonald and WALFW player Mackenzie Thompson.

Some young players also helped out at the masterclass.

Liddelow said the event was a success.

“A massive thankyou goes out to Sam Cousens and Kepler Bradley, from the Claremont FC, on delivering a fantastic day,” he said.

“The weather was not on our side, but it added to the fun and helped teach everyone about wet-weather footy.”

“I hope everyone involved got as much out of it as what I did.

“Thanks as well to all that helped with making the day a great success.”

Seven children were each presented with a football at the end of the clinic for their efforts in the games.
