Champion Albany trainer Steve Wolfe chases $1.5m 7Plus Sport-Gold Rush glory with Red Can Man and Rope Them In

A familiar two-pronged Steve Wolfe attack will vie for a $1.5m prize pool on Saturday when the Albany trainer unleashes Red Can Man and Rope Them In in the 7Plus Sport-Gold Rush feature. Wolfe chased his first career Group 1 victory with the same two gallopers a fortnight ago at the Winterbottom Stakes with Rope Them In finishing fourth in the sprint feature. Speaking on SENTrack on Tuesday morning, Wolfe was bullish on rising four-year-old dasher Rope Them In, who drew barrier 20 and will be ridden by Shaun McGruddy. “He’s going really well yeah he’s in really good order. Everything’s been going good, we had no luck the other day, I think he could’ve run second with the right break from 800m on,” Wolfe said. “Hopefully we get a decent barrier and a bit better run and hopefully beat Western Empire and I’m sure we will be very hard to beat if we can do that. “He’s still got a lot of upside to him ... he will be a very very good horse if nothing goes wrong with him in the next 12 months.” Wolfe remained pragmatic on Red Can Man’s chances, saying the seven-year-old has been a stalwart over the years. “He’s been a great old war horse ... he’s probably nearly at the end of the road but he’s an old war horse and enjoys racing,” he said. “He’s a bit like me, he thinks he’s young but he’s a bit old. “He’s in very good order and Jordan Turner (jockeys) this week ... and is riding in good form and he’ll be competitive because he’s a great fighter.” Red Can Man drew barrier 11 for the 1400m race. Wolfe also revealed his plans for the upcoming $1m TABTouch Perth Cup. Currimundi will definitely (race in the Perth Cup), he’s going well,” he said. “River Rubicon will be D-day next Wednesday. “He will go around in the ($125,000 A.T.A Stakes) and if he goes well in that he will go forward to the Perth Cup.”
