Emerging Albany fast bowler Bryce Jackson has wrapped up a fantastic season with Melville Cricket Club, winning the Allan Edwards Trophy at WA’s Premier Cricket Awards last week.

The trophy is awarded to the most promising up-and-coming cricketer who is a good citizen and observes the spirit of cricket.

Jackson began plying his trade locally at Collingwood Park, before moving to Melville as a junior, and made his first-grade debut in the 2017-18 season.

The WACA rookie took 33 wickets at average of 14.09 across all formats of cricket for the season, including a brilliant display in which he steered his side to victory taking 5-30 in round 12 against Perth.

Jackson was also part of Melville’s Premier T20 side that beat Subiaco-Floreat at the WACA, snaring 2-16 from four overs on his way to a grand final victory.

Former Albany local and Manypeaks cricketer Shayne Wornes also capped off his season in excellent fashion, being selected in the WA District Cricket Competition male team of the year for 2021-22 after a tremendous campaign with Willetton, scoring 621 runs at an average of 47.77.

Wornes scored a remarkable 125 against Gosnells in round 14, hitting 12 fours and five sixes in the process.

The patient left-handed batter scored four half-centuries for the season in the first-grade competition, including scores of 89 and 94 in rounds eight and 13 respectively.

Wornes was part of Willetton’s first-grade team that made it to the two-day semifinals, eventually losing to eventual champions Subiaco-Floreat.

After starting as a junior for Manypeaks, Wornes made the move to join Willetton in 2012-13 and has enjoyed a terrific run since.
