Brodie Dixon drops 30 as Barking Owls remain undefeated in Albany Basketball Association women’s A-grade comp

A hot shooting display from Brodie Dixon guided Barking Owls to their third straight win in the Albany Basketball Association women’s A-grade competition on Tuesday night.

Dixon dropped a season-high 30 points — a tally that included four three-pointers and nine field-goals as they put the Sonics to the sword, finishing 39-point winners in round four.

The Sonics were in trouble early and trailed 19-2 midway through the first half, with their only points coming through Amy Dominiak.

Dixon was well supported by former WNBL player Rebecca Benson, who controlled the tempo of the game early.

Benson was terrific as a playmaker and scorer, assisting her teammates and draining four field goals in a rampant first half.

Sonics got some respite through an Aleesha Narkle triple late in the period but the Owls were well in control of the contest, storming ahead 51-16 at the break.

Dixon had 16 at half-time and added 14 more in the second half, while Benson piled on eight of her own in the second period to widen the margin to 39 points by the end of the half.

The youth and experience of Dixon and Benson were telling, and the dynamic pair were well supported by Shanaya Weeden (12 points) and Tatum Whalley (9).

Amber Nekel (7 points) toiled hard in a losing affair, while Lauryn Clay (6), Elo Magbegor (five points) also chipped in.

Griffins remain the only other undefeated team in the women’s A-grade after they kept their winning streak alive with a dominant 38-point triumph over Raiders Under 18.

Danielle Carne caught fire for Griffins to finish with 21 points, while Angelina De Giambattista (13) and Casey Gabriel (7) provided great support in the win.

Railways are still without a win after their 14-point loss to Infernos.

Summer Stirling (15 points) hit six field goals in the contest, while Charlotte Edwards (11 points) and Enya Marques (6) chipped in.

Tigers’ Krystal Taylor (9) and Valerie Corbett (7) made solid contributions in the loss.
