A year ago, the Rainbow Coast Toy Library was struggling for numbers and its future looked dull.

Today, it is preparing to reopen with a bright new outlook.

New toys, a new online cataloguing system, upgraded computer, new storage and rehoming of the old toys are some of the changes that have brought the library back to life. The library might have closed for one term, but retiring chairwoman Fiona McGuire said it was worth it.

“That closure allowed us to improve the place to attract more volunteers,” she said.

“I think the sustainability movement will help us because more people are becoming interested in reducing, reusing and borrowing.

“It has a huge future ahead of it now and a lot of potential to be integrated into other agencies.”

Michelle Hassell will take over Mrs McGuire’s role and bring her expertise from other toy libraries across the State to Albany.

Mrs McGuire said the next step was to get more members and more funds.

The library is behind the PCYC and reopens on Saturday, June 8.
