An Albany horse trainer said she was shocked to see two blue-ringed octopuses while walking her horses at Quaranup beach last Wednesday morning.

Rebecca Wallrodt said she often took her horses for a walk to the beach but last week was the first time she had spotted the highly venomous octopuses in the water.

“We saw one at first and then went a little bit further at the beach and saw another one and that’s when we felt a bit worried,” she said.

“The thing is, there were a lot of other people out there with their kids, horses and dogs, so I thought I should let someone know about it.”

According to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions website, the blue-ringed octopus is extremely venomous and its bites can be fatal.

A spokeswoman for the City of Albany said there had been no recent sightings reported.

“Should they (rangers) get a report, we will be issuing a notice to the public,” she said.

Ms Wallrodt said she hadn’t seen the octopuses since and hoped it was only a one-time occurrence.
