Beer by the sea

Shannon SmithAlbany Advertiser

Albany’s finest food and beer will unite in an exclusive Taste Great Southern sundowner aboard the famed replica of the Brig Amity for Wish You Were Beer.

Liberte’s chef and owner Amy Hamilton has sourced the region’s best seafood and the fast-growing Wilson Brewing Company will create a special citrus wheat beer with local bush tucker ingredients.

Wilson Brewing sales and marketing manager Rob Quayle said the beer was a great palate cleanser when paired with seafood.

“Beer is as versatile as it is diverse, providing both complementary and contrasting experiences when paired with food,” he said.

“As a general rule I think if you keep the lighter beers with more delicate-flavoured seafood and amp it up on the hops with a more robust heavier seafood dish,

“You can’t go past a beautiful crisp pilsner-style beer with the classic fish and chips — our Figurehead Blonde Ale 4.9 per cent is perfect for a dish like this.”

Ms Hamilton said the business was aiming to create a relaxed sundowner vibe showcasing seafood dishes.

“This is the first formal event to be held on the Amity and I think it’s going to be pretty special,” she said.

“Imagine, looking out over the harbour at sunset with friends, beer in one hand, seafood in the other,

“We’re just providing you with a pretty awesome excuse to pretend you’re a pirate and at the same time wash it all down with some great local food and brew.”

Wish You Were Beer takes place on March 9 from 5pm and tickets can be bought for $150 each at events@wineandfood. com.au or by phoning 9228 9166.
