Bayswater win against a determined Denmark B in a thrilling finish to GSSA women’s division one fixture

Bayswater have won a thrilling contest against Denmark B in the Great Southern Soccer Association women’s division one competition on Friday night. The nailbiting 4-3 victory is Bayswater’s first of the season in a game that had plenty of twists and turns throughout. Joanne Woods hit first with a strike in just the second minute of the match before Denmark’s Esther Taylor answered back nine minutes later to pile the pressure on Bayswater. Two sublime strikes from Woods in the 23rd and 46th minute put Bayswater up 3-1 as they looked set to coast to victory. However, two goals in the space of a minute courtesy of Taylor and Emmerson Powys stunned Bayswater, opening the game up for a possible come-from-behind win for Denmark. A steadying strike in the 54th minute from Bayswater’s Kriccia Woods proved the difference though, as they held firm to record the 4-3 win. Meanwhile, Mt Barker thrashed Caledonians by eight goals in their 9-1 win as the talented Libby Morris netted a hat-trick with Lowana Winter and Melanie Greeney also hitting the scoresheet with two goals each. Polonia continued their domination in the women’s division with a 10-0 win against Phoenix. A Rosie Nicoll hat-trick and a Keira Wiegele brace helped the side dominate for the second week in a row. Tayah Mastalerz fired Denmark A to another win with a two goal haul in their 4-2 victory against Rovers. Polonia B also remain undefeated after their 3-0 clinic against Sonics with Mya Oreo hitting the back of the net twice. Nicoll also laced up the boots for the B side, scoring a single goal in the fixture. In men’s division one, Caledonians have bounced back from their first-round draw to stun the Royals After Caledonians got off to an early advantage, Royals hit back in the second half. Caledonians steadied themselves, however, netting another second-half goal to win 2-1. Calvin Bosch and Benjamin Harris were terrific for Caledonians as Bosch got the visitors off to a flying start. After a lacklustre first half, Royals’ James Ngwero breathed life into his side with a second-half finish but a sealer from Harris put the game to bed. Meanwhile, Rovers and Denmark fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Rovers coming from behind to snatch a draw against a winless Denmark. In-form striker Justin Bielecki scored a double while Michael Draper chipped in for a single goal to secure a point. Polonia rebounded from their first round defeat, downing Bayswater by a massive seven goals. In men’s division two competition Rovers won an entertaining contest against Phoenix 3-2. Caledonians were helped on the way by a Harrison Smith double to win 4-1 and Polonia were convincing winners in their 2-0 win over Bayswater.
