A community art club for people of all ages and abilities is calling for support to build a vibrant, creative hub in the heart of Denmark.

Denmark Art Club has been welcoming students for more than two years, providing a space for children and adults to learn new skills and find connections outside of sporting clubs.

But with a long waiting list the club is on the move, with founder Kendel Lynam, who operates the club from her home’s garage, turning to her town for help.

“Denmark Art Club runs classes for kids, adults and students with special needs,” she said.

“Through the COVID-19 period I have found that art has been especially beneficial to the mental wellbeing of all who attend.”

Mrs Lynam has purchased the historic ‘Murphy’s Workshop’ in Denmark with the hopes of transforming the 70-year-old building into a commercial space for other art groups to enjoy.

“It’s an old building, it would be cheaper for me to knock it down and start again but that would be an awful thing for me to do, to lose some of that history of Denmark,” she said.

“I am wanting to create a place where artists who don’t have somewhere to teach are able to utilise the building.

“I’m just trying to do something good for the community.”
