Albany’s Carla Geneve and Six Degrees set to rock WAM awards

Albany-raised rocker Carla Geneve has again led the nominations in the annual WAMAwards, while Albany pub Six Degrees is in the running to be crowned the State’s top live music venue for the first time.

For the third year in a row, Geneve has earned the most award nominations in the annual celebration of WA musical talent.

This year, she has six nods, including best rock act, best music video, best guitarist, most popular act, and most popular live act, plus best single for The Right Reasons — a track on her debut album, Learn To Like It, which is released on April 23.

Geneve won three WAMAwards at last year’s virtual awards party in July and four in 2019. She also secured back-to-back WAM song of the year awards in 2019 and 2020.

Six Degrees is one of 11 venues to have earned a nomination for most popular venue at this year’s awards.

Since October 2018, the venue has averaged three live shows a week, offering a platform for budding and established acts to hone their craft.

“This is a wonderful thing for us and something that is very rare for a regional venue ... we are stoked,” Six Degrees manager Geoff Waldeck said.

“Thanks to all of you wonderful south coasters who have been so supportive of Six Degrees over the last 12-15 months and especially our efforts to build an industry-standard, popular and sustainable live music venue.”

The awards for most popular act, live act and venue are decided by a public vote, with voting open on the Pilerats website until March 3.

WAMAward winners will be announced at His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth on March 23.
