Albany trounce rivals in junior country week soccer

The Albany Junior Soccer Association again produced an impressive week on the pitch, returning with three titles after another highly successful Football West country week tournament.

Albany reached four grand finals, with the under-17 boys in the Sainsbury league, under-15 boys in the gold Risdon league and under-14 girls in the Kerr league all winning on the final day of the tournament.

After winning last year, the under-15 boys made it back-to-back titles, overcoming Goldfields in the final 3-0.

The powerhouse team did not lose a single game, conceding three goals for the whole week.

Albany finished second on the ladder in the under-17 competition before defeating Leeuwin Naturaliste Junior Socccer Association in the grand final 2-0.

The under-14 girls only lost one game all week, defeating Leeuwin Naturaliste 1-0 in the final.

Albany also reached the final in the under-12 girls Foord league, losing 2-0 to Leeuwin Naturaliste Junior Socccer Association.

Albany won bronze in the under-13 boys’ Milligan league and under-17 girls’ McCallum league after winning the last three titles.

Ella Marwick (under-12 girls) and Matthew Eyles (under-14 boys) won fairest-and-best awards for the tournament, while Kyle Taylor (under-17 boys) was a runner-up fairest and best.
