While WA and Australia sweltered through the hottest summer on record, Albany was the coolest place to spend your days in the State.

Albany recorded WA’s coolest average summer maximum in 2018-19 at just 21.8C.

Walpole, meanwhile, recorded WA’s coolest overall temperature for summer at 18.1C.

And on the back of Albany’s driest year on record, both Albany and Mt Barker had their driest February in 115 years.

Albany received 37.9mm of rain over the three months, well below the average of 77mm.

Katanning rainfall was even lower, with the town receiving just 9.2mm in comparison to the average of 64.1mm.

BOM’s Neil Bennett said there was no clear indication as to whether Autumn rainfall would be above or below average.

“Odds are favouring above average temperatures for Autumn,” he said.

“There is certainly no major rain expected in the next 7 days.

“Obviously we would expect temperatures to start to drop over the next couple of months, but March can still produce some warm days, and indeed we saw April and May last year producing some quite warm temperatures.”
