The City of Albany has extended the nomination period for the 2023 Albany’s Sportsperson of the Year Awards by a month, before the awards ceremony in February next year.

The nomination period will now run until 5pm on Thursday, January 11, giving local sports stars the chance to be nominated for their respective domains.

After a four-year hiatus, the awards are run by the City of Albany and will return on February 15, to recognise the handwork and dedication of local athletes young and old.

There are four categories up for grabs, including junior, senior and veteran, as well as the major Albany Sportsperson of the Year award.

The City of Albany has encouraged nominations for all deserving athletes from a variety of sports codes to be nominated online.

Nominations are collated every month before being reviewed by a judging panel for the selection of the monthly sportsperson winners.

The awards, which have been running for the past four decades, will be held at Retravision Stadium, drawing together athletes from a wide range of sports to celebrate individual excellence.

Sports clubs have been encouraged to nominate their athletes for their achievements in the 2023 calendar year.

At the previous awards ceremony international cycling star Craig Wiggins, national hockey veteran Paul Murray and rising swimmer Tom Gawned all claimed trophies.
