Albany ruckman Kieran Gowdie shines in wet weather defeat to South Fremantle in round 12 of the WAFL season

Albany ruckman Kieran Gowdie made an impressive return to Claremont’s league side in their 34-point loss against South Fremantle at a wet Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday.

The talented ruckman played his last league match in round seven for the Tigers but returned to the line-up against the Bulldogs, accumulating 20 disposals, 45 hit-outs and three inside 50s in a terrific performance.

Gowdie was named among the Tigers’ best players in the defeat.

The Tigers trailed by a slender three points at the first change but were outscored six goals to two for the remaining three quarters as wet weather played its part in the 3.3 (21) to 7.13 (55) loss.

Royals and Albany forward Tyron Smallwood finished with 15 touches, nine tackles, two inside 50s and kicked two goals to also be among their better players.

Borden product Anthony Davis had 10 possessions and two tackles and Railways’ Bailey Bennett finished with nine disposals, six tackles and four inside 50s.

Elsewhere, ex-Royals tall Tom Edwards had an outstanding day in Swan Districts’ 9.11 (65) to 7.6 (48) victory over Perth at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.

Edwards booted four goals from 15 disposals as the Swans consolidated fifth spot on the WAFL ladder.

In Claremont’s reserves team, North Albany junior Talon Delacey was named among the best players in their 40-point win against South Fremantle, finishing with 32 disposals, three tackles and 11 inside 50s.

Railways’ Henrick Alforque also kicked a major while amassing 13 disposals and four tackles in the 13.10 (88) to 7.6 (48) result.

In Claremont’s colts fixture, Royals youngster Cooper Childs was named among the best players, kicking two goals and finishing on seven disposals, six tackles and two inside 50s.

Railways product Toby Hall collected 12 disposals, two inside 50s and one tackle as his side lost 4.9 (33) to 12.17 (89) to South Fremantle.

In the AFL, Railways junior Jordan Clark sparkled in Fremantle’s 41-point win against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

The rebounding half-back had 30 disposals, four tackles and 472m gained in the 17.9 (111) to 10.10 (70) victory.

Meanwhile, North Albany’s Darcy Cameron continued his outstanding form in Collingwood’s plucky seven-point triumph over North Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday.

The towering ruck-forward booted three goals to go with 12 possessions, two tackles and 21 hit-outs in the narrow 13.10 (88) to 12.9 (81) win.
