A charity concert held by Albany Uniting Church last month has raised almost $12,000 to support Ukraine.

The Uniting for Ukraine concert was held on June 17 and 18 at Wesley Albany, and featured a range of local classical music talent.

Ukrainian Association of WA president Mykola Mowczan led the attendees in a rendition of ‘Shche ne vmerla Ukrayini’, the State anthem of Ukraine, joined on stage by local Ukrainians and their families.

The concerts raised a total of $11,954 for Rotary Australia’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Of this total, almost $5000 was donated by Stamms Emporium which sold presale tickets for the event, and made a donation matching the amount of money raised by the tickets they had sold.

Concert organiser Sebastian Harris, who also performed on the piano, said he was “speechless” when Stamms Emporium made the donation, praising the community effort that went into the fundraiser.

“We love music and love sharing with the community,” Mr Harris said.

“But beyond that, this event is proof of what a small group of committed people can achieve if they put their skills together.

“I was truly humbled by the generosity of everyone looking after every task, covering every cost, so that we could forward every cent we raised directly to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal.”
