Albany product Darcy Cameron earns three-year contract extension with Collingwood after superb run of form

North Albany product Darcy Cameron has been rewarded for his tremendous run of form at Collingwood, signing a new three-year contract that will see him remain at the Magpies until the end of 2025.

His re-signing was announced in the aftermath of the Magpies’ win over Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.

Cameron was initially drafted to the Sydney Swans with the 48th pick in the 2016 draft but managed just one game across his first three seasons in the AFL system.

The Albany-raised ruckman was then traded to the Magpies in 2019 and has now played 41 games for the club over three years.

A posterior cruciate ligament injury to star Magpies ruckman Brodie Grundy in round six this year opened the door for the towering Great Southern product to thrive over the past nine rounds.

Cameron is enjoying career-high averages in disposals (13 per game), hit-outs (14), tackles (3), clearances (2) and contested possessions (8), with the Magpies rattling off six wins and two losses with him as the main ruckman.

“I’m stoked, the club’s done so much for me,” Cameron said.

“Three years ago I got the trade over here, and to build on my footy for those three years and now for them to back me in for another three, I’m very excited.”

The versatile Cameron was among the best-afield in the Magpies 11-point win over GWS at the MCG, spending time in both the ruck and forward line.

He finished with 23 hit-outs, 17 disposals, two tackles and two goals to guide his side to a 11.22 (88) to 12.5 (77) triumph.

Magpies general manager of football Graham Wright praised Cameron’s ability to step up in his role when called upon.

“Darcy’s performances over the past few years have continued to improve and become really consistent, both as a forward and in the ruck,” Wright said.

“This year with Brodie (Grundy) being unavailable due to injury, Darcy (Cameron) had step up to lead our ruck division and has played a key role in our improved recent form.

“We’re delighted he’s committed himself to the club for a further three seasons.”
