Albany man Rowan Cummings receives suspended prison sentence for repeatedly driving on suspended licence

An Albany man has received a suspended prison sentence for “flagrantly disregarding court orders” by repeatedly driving on a suspended licence. Rowan Cummings, 37, appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on September 15 on two charges of driving on a licence which was already suspended until January 30, 2025. Police prosecutor Sgt Dave Loverock told the court that about 7.50am on July 20, police attended a house in Lockyer and spoke to Cummings, who was standing next to a parked Holden Rodeo. When the officers reviewed CCTV footage from the property for an unrelated matter, they saw footage of Cummings driving the car. The second charge related to an incident about 3.20pm on July 25, when police saw Cummings in a Holden Rodeo at the BP service station on Albany Highway. Cummings’ explanation for the July 20 offence was that he was at a friend’s house using a tumble drier to dry his daughter’s school uniform. In relation to the July 25 offence, Cummings was picking up his daughter from kindergarten, his defence lawyer said. Magistrate Dianne Scaddan said he was “flagrantly disregarding court orders” for the sake of “trivial things”. He received a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
