Albany dog owners encouraged to tackle the Walk this May challenge to help pets in need
Dog lovers are being challenged to step out with their pets every day next month for a virtual RSPCA fundraiser to fight animal cruelty and help give abandoned pets a second chance at life.
The annual RSPCA Millions Paws Walk will not go ahead in Perth this year, but West Australians can still show their support virtually by signing on for the Walk this May challenge.
Individuals, families, colleagues and friends can take part in the walking challenge by creating an online profile to gather donations and walking their pooches every day to support RSPCA’s work to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals in need.
Money raised by the community funds about 90 per cent of RSPCA’s operations Australia-wide, which every year helps 30,000 neglected, abused or abandoned dogs through its shelters.
RSPCA WA Great Southern inspector Georgie Brown will be taking part with her two pooches, Sally and Frankie.
“Exercise and play time is so important for our dogs, and can help curb problem behaviours like digging holes, wrecking plants or pulling washing off the line. Plus, it’s a wonderful opportunity to bond with your four-legged friend,” she said.
“Whether your pooch likes to play with other dogs, visit new places, or just have a good sniff, Walk This May is a great challenge to stay motived and active as the weather cools down.
“Knowing every step you take is helping raise funds for abused, abandoned and neglected animals is an added feel-good bonus.
“It’s free to sign up online, so I’m hoping lots of local pet owners will join me next month, walk to fight animal cruelty and be a hero for dogs in need.’’
