Albany-based Mule Creative is helping beachgoers find the best spot with Beaches of Kinjarling website

With Albany’s summer now in full swing, beachgoers have some help in picking the best beach for their day of salt, sand and hopefully sun. The Beaches of Kinjarling website highlights the iconic beaches of the Great Southern with surrounding Menang cultural sites. With local weather often changing rapidly and so many beaches, bays and coves on offer, it can be tricky to make the right call on the best beach in Kinjarling for any given day. The new website put together by local brothers Alex and Leo Gott-Cumbers from Mule Creative with support from the City of Albany, Rio Tinto and Vancouver Art Centre, uses a special algorithm to take the guesswork out of selecting a beach. The site uses weather data to work out when it’s best to visit a particular beach based on wind speed, direction, and geography. A rating system out of 10 is used to notify tourists and locals of the conditions at a number of popular Kinjarling beaches including Binalup/Middelton beach, Nannarup and Gull Rock beach. Alex Gott-Cumbers said in order to get the creative enterprise grant he had to partner with a local business. “We chose to partner with Kurrah Mia because they provide such a valuable service to the community,” he said. “The tours run by Kurrah Mia have been affected by the COVID-19 lockdown, reducing the number of interstate and international tourists to Albany. “The site hopes to promote Kurrah Mia and the beaches of Kinjarling with a combination of science, culture and strong imagery. “We’ve had amazing feedback and the site traffic has grown 1600 per cent over the last month. “We are welcoming feedback from the public and are looking for suggestions on which beaches to add to the site. “Everyone has a favourite.” The website is www.beachesofkinjarling.com.au and users can provide feedback via email to alex@mulecreative.com.au.
