Becoming an author was never just a dream for Albany’s Naomi Lake.

While tucked away in the library with a book during her school years, Lake, 30, always knew she would one day write her own. It was just a matter of when.

Now she’s preparing to launch her third children’s book next month, with plans in motion for a fourth.

Unlike her previous tales sharing the funny adventures of Harmony the Hen, this story is all about her.

Titled Naomi’s World, the new book will be distributed by Carers WA as part of a project focusing on the stories of community champions, to support children with disabilities.

“I am opening up my life and sharing how Harmony came to be,” she said.

The story focuses on her experience at school, her role as an ambassador for Down Syndrome WA, her love of performing, and the inspiration behind her successful series.

“I found it really hard at school, I tried to find a way to fit in, but I always found my comfort zone in the library reading and writing,” she said

“Once you grab a book and start reading, you magically disappear into the make-believe and you get to be a part of the story.

“That was a great escape for me.

“That’s how I started writing.”

Lake said the book aimed to show children they could achieve their dreams.

“My message through the book is that anything is possible,” she said.

“You just have to go out and explore the world, because the world won’t come to you.

“I never give up, I just keep on dancing.”
