Round-the-clock access to the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre is expected to roll out early next year, months after the initial target date.

Internal advertising shown throughout September told Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre members the facility would have 24-hour access by October this year.

But access remains restricted to ALAC’s staffed business hours.

The City of Albany’s executive director of community services Susan Kay said the City wanted to ensure a seamless transition to the new system.

“The implementation of this technology is currently undergoing the necessary approval and risk management process and looking to be successfully rolled out across the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre in early 2020,” she said.

“At this stage, we have the physical elements in place to offer 24-hour access to our gym facility. We are currently working to ensure the implementation is seamless.”

Security was also flagged as a key issue before implementing 24-hours access.

“The security requirements to allow 24/7 access to any of our facilities is a very high priority,” Ms Kay said.

“During business hours, the gym will continue to be supervised.

“The City of Albany is implementing a range of strategies including CCTV to ensure that the appropriate security measures for a facility of ALAC’s size and complexity is in place before providing this service to our members.”

Twenty-four hour access to ALAC’s gym was a concept first explored by the City this year in their annual business planning process, according to Ms Kay.
