Addy a string to her bow
A yoga teacher, performer and local business owner has been appointed as the new head of Denmark Chamber of Commerce.
As a performance psychology consultant and owner of The Mental Coach, Sumer Addy will bring a decade of experience working with businesses and not-for-profit organisations in Australia to her new chief executive role.
Ms Addy said she had big shoes to fill, with popular chief executive Liz Jack on the way out, but she was “super excited” about her new role.
“I guess the big qualities that I bring are awareness and that ability to juggle a lot of balls, to multitask and I’d say more than anything I’m a big doer in the community,” the mother-of-three said.
“I love enriching and uplifting my community — I find it’s one of my philosophies in life, just to really contribute.”
“So it’s amazing to have this opportunity and actually be able to make a positive impact, especially the business sector, which affects so many of us in Denmark as most of us own small businesses.”
Ms Addy had been chairwoman of Gumnut Occasional Day Care since 2014, helped restart Denmark Women in Business and is co-owner of the Denmark Yoga Centre.
Chamber president John Maxwell said the position attracted many applicants and he was delighted with the appointment.
“We are looking forward to working with her on the continued support of small business in the Shire,” he said.
“As our community grows and we attract a new generation of business owners to the Shire, the Chamber CEO position will continue to play a role in advocacy and promotion of our members through the Shire and the broader region."
Ms Addy will start in the role next month.
