ADCA AGM: Same five clubs to play A-grade next season despite speculation B-grade champs Denmark would return

The Albany and Districts Cricket Association A-grade competition will remain at five teams despite speculation Denmark would return to the fray for the 2023-24 season. The same five clubs from last season will remain playing A-grade after Monday night’s ADCA annual general meeting. Team nominations are taken at the AGM and after a renewed push to play A-grade and having taken out the B-grade premiership last season, Denmark again nominated a B and C-grade side for the upcoming season. The Magpies won the B-grade title in March after a dramatic grand final in which scores were tied. However, as a result of finishing higher on the ladder at the end of the regular season the Magpies were awarded the premiership. A side containing former Claremont-Nedlands first grade cricketer Campbell Robertson, young stars Jed Schwarzbach, Jackson Ross and Ethan Foreman and a sprinkling of experienced senior players were part of the push to get the Magpies back into the top grade. The Magpies though will remain with two teams in the minor grades for the immediate future. Mt Barker, Royals, Collingwood Park, Manypeaks and Railways all nominated A-grade teams. The Lions, Peaks and Park were the three clubs to nominated three senior teams, one in A-grade, B-grade and C-grade, while the Tigers will again have A and B-grade. Reigning A-grade premiers Mt Barker will also field a B-grade team. Narrikup have signalled their intention to move up from the C-grade competition, nominating a team in B-grade. Both Mt Barker and Narrikup are looking at the possibility of having C-grade teams as well, meaning the overall ADCA could expand by two senior teams. One other team change is likely to happen in the under-17s competition with Mt Barker unlikely to field a side but Denmark indicating they will play in the junior grade. Ryan Kinnear will enter the second year of his term as ADCA president and Terry Eaton replaces Jarrod Hansen as secretary. Tess Air will remain in the treasurer role and John Miell was re-elected as senior vice-president. Paul Nielsen joined in the position of junior vice-president while Jim Walters, Jim Darmody and Sam Slater were re-elected as committee members and one position remains vacant.
