A new and unusual record as Great Southern duo climb Bluff Knoll in skis

A new and unlikely record has been set on Bluff Knoll. Great Southern duo Boyd Rae and Beau Vaux summited southern WA’s highest peak in snow skis, all to raise money for Active Farmers, a not-for-profit organisation building stronger and more resilient farming communities. Their gritty efforts on the slopes helped them raise just shy of $6000 for the cause. “It was absolutely amazing,” Mr Rae said. “We had so much support on the mountain, very generous donations and people from all around Australia got behind us.” The pair documented their attempt on Facebook, stopping and speaking to hikers as they inched their way up the rocky slopes. “There was no stopping us once we got into it,” Mr Rae said. “There was never a moment we wanted out of the skis.” Mr Rae said it was slow going, especially when they had to fit big skis on narrow steps on the trail. They endured a few bumps and stumbles as they slogged their way up the mountain. “I was very tight in the calves yesterday — she was struggle town,” Mr Rae said. “Also a few blisters and a little bit of ego damage because I may have forgotten sunscreen. I’m feeling a bit crispy.” Despite the bruises and sunburn, they duo said their efforts were well worth it. “This is all in aid of improving rural mental and physical health.” Mr Rae said. “I just wanted to thank all the supporters, it was more support than I could have ever imagined.” The money raised will go towards starting up a new Active Farmers community and running a free six-week program in the community. “We got our most support from the Active Farmers community,” Mr Rae said. “If anyone out there knows of a community this would suit, get in contact with Active Farmers.”
