Broadbrush: Nigella signs on for MKR, beer and skittles at Claremont and get pink for International Rosé Day.

Nigella on for MKR 2022 International celeb cook Nigella Lawson is joining the My Kitchen Rules party on the Seven Network this year, teaming up with Manu Feildel and fan favourite Matt Preston to front the wildly popular cooking competition for its 12th season this year. Preston, who has been in “special projects” at Seven for the past two years thanks to COVID, will be glad to get back on the tools too. We’re promised that the 2022 season will take “the much-loved show back to the original recipe: real people, cooking real food in their own homes.” In the pink June 11 is International Rosé Day, a celebration of pink wines across the world. Rosé is a summer drink, so clearly our Southern Hemisphere celebration is, aligned with this Northern Hemisphere promotion, whether we like it or not. Huh? It’s fine though because, unlike Europe, WA has stunning sunlit days throughout our “colder” months, just perfect for a glass of rosé. Long ignored by wine media (for good reason — Australia’s first attempts at rosé were sticky, lurid, lollypop sugar bombs) pink wine has come into it’s own in recent times with Australians guzzling it in massive quantities, as it has improved. It’s a consumer favourite. Australian versions of the style now closely follow Southern France’s bracing, savoury style with their austere, complex and bone dry characteristics. And they’re cheap. So, go forth and celebrate your inner pink this June. Dish of the week This week, we lunched at Studio Bistro in Yallingup. It’s had its ups and downs in recent years, culinarily speaking, but with new chef Michael Stock on board, it’s now the best it’s been. You’ll have to wait for us to publish our full review in a few weeks to find out which dish Stock makes that outshines even that of it’s inventor, Heston Blumenthal. In the meantime, Studio Bistro’s mind-boggling raw tuna with Wagyu fat and anchovy is next level. Sweet tooth nirvana at Rockpool Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth’s five-course Dessert Degustation dinner is back on this weekend for one day only. Rockpool head chef and former pastry chef, Brendan Owens has curated a dessert experience that pairs five sweet courses with five beverages for $139. Sweet tooths can enjoy autumn strawberries and lime clouds, followed by mandarin, violet, and vanilla and the grand finale, Rockpool’s many-layered opera cake. Frothing at Claremont The autumn food and booze festival season is in full swing, but it you’re a forward planner looking for a winter event, buckle in, because the Froth Town festival is back in August. Tickets have just gone on sale. The festival, held at Claremont Showground includes beer — obviously — games, rides, live acts and lots of food stalls. We went last year and can highly recommend it. On show this year will be cideries, distilleries, wineries and seltzeries and some seriously amusing entertainment such as the dad bod wet tee-shirt competition, giant beer pong, sumo wrestling, hot dog eating comp, a bucking bull and the Feral Biggie Bar. Froth Town kicks off on August 19.
