Cadillac Lyriq getting sports car concept-inspired update
General Motors has allowed journalists to peek behind the curtains at its Michigan design studio, and in doing so appears to have leaked an upcoming Cadillac Lyriq facelift… and possibly other upcoming vehicles.
The Wall Street Journal spoke with GM’s global design boss, Australian Michael Simcoe, at the company’s Warren, Michigan technical centre, and during the tour clay models of a revised Lyriq are seen.
These appear to wear a grille-less front inspired by this year’s Opulent Velocity concept, though as with the concept the grille area has a shield-like shape evoking Cadillac’s crest logo.

The brand’s trademark vertically oriented LED daytime running lights remain.
Down back, there appear to have been changes made to the lighting elements. The high-mounted lights aft of the rear side windows appear slimmer, while the clusters closer to the bumper appear to be more upright than the slanted units of the current car.
The tour also appears to reveal what could be a facelifted version of the current CT4 sedan, tucked away in the background, while clay models of what appears to be the Sollei convertible concept – with its top up – can also be seen.
A couple of what appear to be sports cars, as well as a sedan, can also be seen hidden under tarps. It’s unclear if these are future Cadillac concepts or production vehicles.
While the Lyriq is only just launching in Australia, US customer deliveries began in 2022 so it’s edging closer to the typical point in a car’s lifecycle where a mid-life refresh is conducted.
GM Authority reports the facelifted Lyriq may debut in 2026 as a model year 2027 vehicle.
Cadillac is returning to the Australian market and has opened its first retail location (in Sydney) with two further locations (Brisbane, Melbourne) opening in 2025.
Its debut model, and thus far the only model it has confirmed for Australia, is the Lyriq. First customer deliveries will begin during the first quarter of 2025.
The Lyriq range opens at $117,000 before on-road costs.
Cadillac recently confirmed a hotter version of the Lyriq, called the Lyriq-V, will arrive here during 2026.
It has also trademarked the Optiq, Vistiq and Escalade iQ nameplates, which suggests some or all of these electric SUVs will join the Lyriq Down Under.
