2025 Tesla Model Y revealed: Fresh look for world's best-selling EV

The updated Tesla Model Y has been revealed, with a fresh look but a higher price tag.

Australian deliveries are expected to begin in May.

Launching first in RWD and Long Range AWD guise, both with Launch Series enhancements, the base price has climbed $7500 to $63,400 before on-road costs.

The Long Range AWD is now priced at $73,400 before on-roads, up by $3500.

But the range has also climbed too, now at 466km on the WLTP test cycle for the RWD – up 11km – and 551km for the Long Range, an improvement of 18km.

Tesla doesn’t publish power and torque figures, but it does post 0-100km/h claims.

The RWD takes 5.9 seconds and the Long Range AWD 4.3 seconds, which means the updated models are quicker by 1.0 and 0.7 seconds respectively.

Launch Series models come standard with the Acceleration Boost software upgrade optional in pre-update models.

The Model Y, Australia’s best-selling electric vehicle last year and likely the world’s, has received a new Cybertruck-inspired front end.

A light bar stretches across the front of the Model Y, while there are separate lighting assemblies underneath.

Down back, there’s another full-width light bar. It’s a chunky one too, and doesn’t look like anything else in the Tesla lineup.

Tesla says the suspension has been retuned for greater comfort and “smooth handling”, while there’s more responsive steering.

There’s an updated wheel and tyre package which is also said to help offer a smoother driving experience as well as greater grip. Only 20-inch alloy wheels are available, at least for now.

Redesigned body castings have also reduced the number of parts, another change said to help reduce road noise.

Inside, there are new ventilated front seats and colourful ambient lighting, though it appears the indicators are still controlled via a stalk and not buttons on the steering wheel like the updated Model 3.

Gone, however, is the column-mounted gear selector. Instead, gear selection is done via the touchscreen.

Said touchscreen has also grown from 15 inches to 15.4 inches, while there’s a new 8.0-inch touchscreen for rear passengers who sit on power-reclining seats.

Launch Series models wear unique badging on the door sills, puddle lights and tailgate, plus black suede trim on the dashboard.

You can no longer get a Model Y in black, though Glacier Blue joins Pearl White, Stealth Grey, Quicksilver and Ultra Red. These are all no-cost options on Launch Series models.
