Nicolas Cage has been spotted battered and bleeding in Yallingup.

The Hollywood star was seen with blood pouring from his head and, in other images, a blood-soaked shirt.

But the 59-year-old’s dishevelled appearance is nothing for fans to worry about as it was all part of scenes and a first look at his new movie The Surfer.

The Oscar winner arrived with his family this week and is living it up in surfing champion Taj Burrow’s mansion as he settles in for weeks of filming the psychological thriller.

His battered showing comes as the script reveals Cage’s character returns to his Australian beachside town after years away in America but gets a frosty welcome from a gang who dominate the beach.

The star said he wasn’t afraid of the South West’s reputation for great white sharks and proved it when he hit the chilly surf in a wetsuit not long after his arrival.

He and his family stocked up on supplies at an Asian grocery store on the way down in Busselton.

Food of Asia owner Annie Liban told how the star landed a freebie in the way of oranges after she recognised him.

Liban only accepted cash for the fruit, but the millionaire star just had US dollars on him.

“I said to him, ‘I’m so sorry, we only accept cash (for those)’,” Liban said, to which the actor replied, “I’m so sorry, I only have US dollars with me”.

As he ordered his fried rice, she said to the star, “You know, you do look like Nicolas Cage”, to which he responded, “I am”.

The owner said the starstruck moment was a “dream come true”.

“We started screaming,” she said before asking the star if they could take some happy snaps.

“He gladly said ‘yes’,” she added.
