Augmented reality programs that will transport you to remote mine sites in the blink of an eye.

Burning snowballs.

Scientists holding fire in their hands.

And much, much more.

It is all at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday and Thursday from 9am until 4.30pm.

And it is all completely free.

The public exhibition of the latest technology linked to the resources industry is part of the Resources Technology Showcase 2019 event, hosted by Seven West Media and backed by major resources and the Australian and WA governments.

As delegates to the RTS2019 conference hear from industry heavyweights such as Fortescue Metals boss Elizabeth Gaines, pictured, the public will be able to wonder at more than a dozen futuristic displays that will be on display at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the latest generation of technology and sit in on a series of TED Talk-style seminars bringing to life the science behind the resources industry and give information about careers in the industry.

Once visitors have had their fill of what tomorrow’s tech looks like, they can stroll to the scenes of the world’s biggest Meccano challenges where three huge pieces of mining equipment were assembled this week under the gaze of thousands of office workers.

The latest truck to come to Perth is a Caterpillar 789D Haulpac, pictured with Fortescue chief operating officer Greg Lilleyman. It is stationed at Langley Park as part of this weekend’s Mining Resources Emergency Competition, which involves more than 20 teams from across WA’s resources industry competing in simulated mining rescues.

At 325 tonnes, Fortescue’s 789D outweighs the 785 truck that is in position a few hundred metres west at Elizabeth Quay.

The 785’s neighbour at The Landing is a 745 articulated haul truck, which is connected to a Panther float with a D9 dozer on the back.

The display is the culmination of months of planning involving mining equipment supplier WesTrac, mining service company Piacentini and Son, Titan Heavy Lift and events specialists RD Events.

Premier Mark McGowan said he was looking forward to RTS2019.

“As Premier, I am always amazed at the technology and innovation that drives industry in this State,” he said.

“We will continue to foster that innovation to create jobs for people across the State. I look forward to seeing PCEC come to life with futuristic displays during RTS. I’m proud we’re able to display some of the world’s most advanced technology, developed right here in WA, at the public exhibition.”
